This role combines customer service, subscriber retention, and audience growth—serving as a key touchpoint between our newsroom, business operations, and readers. This position falls under the broader audience development function and is well-suited for someone who enjoys problem-solving, understands subscription journalism, and is interested in long-term audience growth strategies.

Level Three Labs is hiring a versatile, proactive Audience Engagement Associate to help deepen relationships with our most engaged readers while expanding our reach across platforms.

This position plays a key role in delivering a high-quality experience for current subscribers, promoting content to new audiences, and helping shape a more personalized, real-time approach to news delivery. You’ll work closely with editorial, product, and operations teams to support subscriber loyalty, audience growth, and smart content distribution.

This is an ideal role for someone who understands the rhythms of a newsroom and is excited to contribute to strategies that make our journalism more accessible, relevant and essential throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support lifecycle messaging for subscribers and registered users — from onboarding and engagement to retention and reactivation
  • Serve as a primary contact for subscriber support, including billing and access questions
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely, clear and professional manner
  • Track and follow up with former paying subscribers to understand churn and re-engagement opportunities
  • Help guide readers
  • Collaborate with editorial, product and audience teams to improve subscriber experience
  • Identify patterns in customer feedback to inform retention and growth strategies

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service, audience development, subscriptions or digital media
  • Strong written communication skills and a service-oriented mindset
  • Comfort working with subscriber databases, CRM tools or billing platforms
  • Analytical approach to understanding audience behavior and retention
  • Interest in journalism, news products and subscription-based media

Other Skills

  • Experience at a subscription-based publisher or media company
  • Familiarity with audience funnels, retention metrics or lifecycle marketing
  • Background in newsroom-adjacent roles or media operations
